Acropora corals are probably the most sought after corals in the hobby due to the fantastic variety of colors and the nostalgic branching growth known worldwide as "the go to coral." Acropora corals are generally known as Staghorn or Elkhorn corals due to their unique branching growth pattern that resembles a set of antlers. These are some of the more difficult corals to keep in the aquarium due to their specific set of needs and lack of ability to survive in unwanted parameters for very long. Decades ago, Acroporas were thought to be "temporary" in the aquarium as lighting and overall parameters were almost never able to keep them alive long term... Nowadays, Acropora colonies are very common in the hobby due to our efficient RODI systems and incredibly powerful LED lighting. Many individuals are able to grow a single branch into entire colonies now! We recommend moderate to high flow and lighting for just about all Acropora corals for best results. Acropora corals would prefer to be kept in well established aquariums and do not like rapid water parameter changes. We recommend Acropora for any experienced reefers or individuals ready to take their tank to the next level!
