SPS Corals

SPS or Small Polyp Stony corals have tiny polyps on a calcareous skeleton. SPS are differentiated from LPS in that most of their polyps are just barely protruding through the calcium carbonate skeleton, whereas LPS polyps can be several centimeters outside of their skeleton in many cases. SPS corals are usually considered more difficult to keep than other corals as they require very stable water parameters. Most SPS will also require moderate to high flow and lighting in the aquarium to properly mimic their natural environment. We consider SPS to be Intermediate/Advanced level care.
