Salty Underground: Mushroom Corals

Mushroom Corals

Mushrooms corals are generally considered to be a "soft coral" as they lack the calcium carbonate skeleton of stony corals. This group of colorful corals can usually be split into three distinct categories: Discosoma, Rhodactis, and Ricordea. Each of these grows in a slightly different way and will exhibit drastically different visual appearance. Mushrooms are known to be some of the easiest corals to grow and are almost always the go to starter coral for beginners, with the exception of Ricordea Yumas that can be a bit more delicate. We consider Mushroom corals to be the best beginner coral overall!
