This Hammer Coral is considered an LPS or Large Polyp Stoney coral as it possesses polyps that can extend over an inch long and is calcareous, laying down a calcium carbonate skeleton. This hammer is described as having a branching growth pattern. As the colony continues to get bigger it will protrude different arms or branches resembling a tree. Hammer corals can adjust to most lighting but does best with moderate lighting and moderate to low flow. Most LPS corals do not grow well in high flow due to the fact that the larger polyps can take damage from violent movement. Hammer corals are generally thought to be one of the easiest LPS corals to grow, and they are great addition to add vivid movement and vibrant color to your aquarium.
