The Chestnut Cowrie is a great beginner snail. The young specimens are added to aquariums to be keep algae under control. The will eat nearly every type of algae. It is a peaceful species and considered reef safe with caution. The young eat algae only, but older snails may also eat sponges and soft corals and therefore may not be reef safe. The Chestnut Cowrie Snail must be provided with hiding spots in the aquarium, in the form of rock work, where it will hide during the day.
