Montipora Spongodes

Montipora corals are sometimes referred to as the vase coral or velvet corals. They are some of the most well known and most widely aquacultured SPS corals. They are reef safe and peaceful; like many other SPS corals, the Montiporas do not use sweeper tentacles to sting surrounding neighbors. Montiporas can typically be placed in close proximity to other specimen without any negative effects. Montiporas typically prefer higher flow and lighting but will adapt to a number of different conditions. This is one of the easiest SPS corals to grow and is considered a very fast grower with the right parameters. This specimen is a very special variety of Montipora as it's able to grow into several different patterns. Montipora Spongode exhibits the capability to encrust onto rockwork, plate outward into different directions, and branch upward randomly. Most stony corals are only able to use one fixed growth pattern as they develop, but this unique specimen is capable of much more.
